20th Century Fox has been running ads w/o theater base info in newspapers and several other studios are investigating options, following their example, in an effort to reduce ad size since exhibitors are no longer contributing to pay for that space.
The result will be a loss of revenue for papers and an inconvenience for readers who will now have to flip through pages to find where ea film is playing. Just wondering how other newspapers are responding to this. Does your paper have category rates for movies? Lineage or revenue contracts? Retail vs. national rates for this business? The San Antonio Express-News offers a category rate that is apprx 40% lower than the Retail card with the understanding that studios MUST list ALL local theaters showing the film or pay the full natl branding rate for their product if there is no local connection. Would appreciate reading the "ad chatter" on this important issue facing newspapers today - or feel free to call me direct at 210-250-2518.
